Parish Life

The heart of a parish is the Eucharist, but the parish family is the body that makes it a unique and vibrant community with an exciting parish life. Our parish offers a variety of ways to be part of that communal family in addition to the celebration of the sacraments.

Pastors have been having their phones and emails hacked and parishioners are being asked to help in some way—cash, gift cards, and so on.  I will never ask any of you for any personal donations—do not reply to these messages!

Welcome New Parochial Vicars!

Fr. Jonathan Cano Martinez, C.S.J. Ordained May 1, 2014, is here now from Mexico. He will be the new director for Hispanic Ministry starting July 1st.

Fr. Norbert Joseph, C.S.J. Ordained April 25, 2017, will be here in August from India. He will be the new attending priest at
St. Elizabeth Mission.

Divine Diners

St. Serra Divine Diners is a ministry that kicked-off in April 2017.  Twice a year, parishioners sign up to participate as Divine Diners and are randomly placed into a group that gets together for a meal at a member’s home or a restaurant, several times during the sea-son. Groups meet one time per month with the focus being to meet and get to know more of, and more about your fellow St. Serra pa-rishioners, experience community worship (pre-meal prayer and scripture readings), and have a great social interaction with fabulous food and conversation. Diners sign-up into two categories, one for families, and one for adults. Sign-ups for the next session is in August. More information to follow.  Maureen Kubli or (661) 722-3901

Catholic Bible Institute

The Catholic Bible Institute (CBI) is a three-year, comprehensive Bible study program: one year focuses on the Old Testament, one on the New Testament, and a third on biblical themes, along with practical skills for facilitating Bible-based programs in parishes.

Participants can opt for the Certification Track to earn a Certificate in Bible Study Leadership from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles (and LMU Extension Semester Hours), or they can participate simply for their own learning in the Enrichment Track. CBI meets one Saturday a month, August through June, from 9am to 4pm at Incarnation Church in Glendale.

CBI tuition is $380 per year for Old and New Testament years.  Payment in installments is available.

Oppose Bill Targeting
"Seal of Confession"

For Catholics, the sanctity of the confessional is unquestionable. It is central to our faith and to our constitutional right to the free expression of religion. As mentioned last week when we read Archbishop’s letter about the Senate Bill threatening the Seal of Confession, our Knights of Columbus Council has undertaken the unfolding of our letter writing campaign to urge this bill’s defeat.

To facilitate contacting your State Assembly member this link (also repeated below) is set up by the California Catholic Conference to generate a letter to your official identified by your zip code. It is a quick and easy way to contact your State Assembly member!

Tuesday, September 10th, at 7:30 is the first meeting date for the new round of RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Non-baptized who are interested in the Catholic Church are welcome as are those baptized in other Christian communities or Catholics without First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
