For High Schoolers (Grades 9–12), The sacrament of Confirmation, along with Baptism and Eucharist, is one of the three sacraments of initiation. At Confirmation, the Holy Spirit strengthens the baptized Christian and endows them with gifts to enable them to carry out our mission to be Christ in the world and to continue building God’s kingdom. To be a full member of the Catholic Church, one needs to be baptized, confirmed and receive first Eucharist. Preparation to receive the sacrament of Confirmation takes place in high school, over a two-year period.
At Saint Junipero Serra Parish we use the "Chosen" confirmation program from Ascencion Press
Chosen is a transformative approach to confirmation. Multiple components combine an impactful curriculum with a powerful digital tool to enhance communication and ease administrative tasks. Coupled with engaging supplementary material for teens and parents, Chosen is more than just a resource. It is a whole new approach to sacramental preparation.
The Chosen curriculum is 24 sessions with a heavy focus on evangelizing young people and accompanying them as they become disciples. The curriculum addresses three big questions, "Why believe in God?", "Why trust Jesus?" and "Why be a part of the Church?" These questions are supplemented with the Foundations book series, which allows teens to dive more deeply into each. There are four versions of the 24 session curriculum, each adapted for a specific group.
